Peter Obi has called for urgent government action after reports of a mass abduction in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Reports from affected communities
Obi said communities including Dekara were attacked and that worshippers were reportedly abducted during Juma’at prayers. He cited reports suggesting that as many as 600 people, mostly women, children and older residents, may have been taken, while about 30 people were reportedly killed. He stressed that the figures were still being verified.
The former Anambra governor described the incident as “one case too many” and urged security agencies to rescue everyone in captivity, secure the communities and dismantle the criminal networks behind the attacks.
Infrastructure and security response
Obi also pointed to reports that difficult terrain and a collapsed bridge hampered the initial response. President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to begin an immediate rescue operation and provide updates.
