Northern governors have paid tribute to former Gongola State governor and former Peoples Democratic Party national chairman Bamanga Tukur, describing his death as a significant loss to the North and to Nigeria.
A career across public life
Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who chairs the Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum, said Tukur’s more than six decades of public service, business and political activity left a lasting mark on the country.
Tukur served as chief executive of the Nigerian Ports Authority, governor of the old Gongola State and minister of industries. He was also associated with continental business initiatives and held the PDP national chairmanship between 2012 and 2014.
