Several communities in Abuja and neighbouring parts of the Federal Capital Territory are experiencing a planned electricity interruption today as maintenance work is carried out at a major transmission substation.

Areas affected by the maintenance

The work at the 132/33kV Katampe 1 Transmission Substation is expected to affect customers in Dawaki, Gwarinpa, Dutse Alhaji and surrounding areas. Parts of Kubwa, Arab Road, Bwari, Mopol Barracks and Jiwa are also included in the disruption area.

Communities near Suleja also listed

The notice extends to Suleja Township, the FCT College of Education, Field Base, Madalla, Zuba and nearby communities. Residents and businesses in the listed locations have been advised to plan around the interruption and protect sensitive electrical equipment where possible.

What residents should expect

The maintenance window is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During that period, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company is not expected to supply customers connected to the affected transmission route.

Planned maintenance can help keep high-voltage equipment reliable, but the timing is likely to be inconvenient for households, shops and offices that depend on daytime power. Residents should make practical arrangements for water pumping, refrigeration and essential communications.

Conclusion

The Abuja outage is a temporary, scheduled interruption linked to substation maintenance. The affected communities will be watching for restoration after the stated six-hour window and for any further notice from the electricity authorities.
