Residents in parts of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State are facing renewed security concerns after suspected bandits reportedly invaded several communities shortly after Friday prayers.
Worshippers taken from mosque area
A lawmaker representing the area said the attackers entered Dekara and surrounded a mosque before taking worshippers into the forest. The gunmen reportedly moved to Gidan Zana, Sabon Gida and Masaka, where more residents were abducted. The exact number of victims was still being established.
Some people escaped with machete injuries, while youths and heads of households were among those reportedly taken. The affected area shares borders with Kebbi, Kwara and the Republic of Benin, making coordinated security coverage especially important.
