Nollywood icon Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde recently found herself at the center of a viral social media storm after an awkward red carpet encounter at the 46th Miss Nigeria Patrons & Board Dinner. The veteran actress, known for her elegance and no-nonsense attitude, walked out on a young presenter who repeatedly asked her to introduce herself.

The Awkward Red Carpet Moment

The drama unfolded on Sunday, March 22, 2026, when Omotola arrived as one of the top dignitaries at the prestigious Miss Nigeria event held at Eko Hotel and Suites. During a live red carpet session, a young presenter, dressed in a white polo shirt, approached the screen goddess for an interview.

However, things quickly went south when the presenter asked the legendary actress to state her name for the camera.

Visibly surprised by the request, Omotola paused and questioned his professionalism. “You are here with who? I should tell you my name?” she asked, clearly taken aback.

The presenter attempted to salvage the situation, explaining that while he knew exactly who she was, he wanted her to introduce herself for the benefit of the viewers. “I know you, Omotola Jalade, I just want fans to know who I am with,” he pleaded.

“Don’t Touch Me”

Omotola, however, was not having it. Dismissing his explanation, she made it clear that a star of her magnitude shouldn’t need an introduction on a Nigerian red carpet.

“Why should I let fans know me? You are not ready. I am tired,” she replied, attempting to walk away.

Though the presenter begged for another chance, which she briefly granted, he fumbled again by repeating the same request. At this point, the actress became visibly irritated. Ending the interaction abruptly, she warned, “Don’t touch me,” before walking off the red carpet.

Fans Divided Over the Incident

The video of the encounter quickly went viral, sparking a massive debate across Nigerian social media platforms. Netizens were sharply divided on whether the presenter was simply doing his job or if the actress overreacted.

Some fans defended the presenter, arguing that asking a guest to introduce themselves is standard journalistic practice, regardless of their celebrity status. “In every interview, the first thing you do is introduce yourself. You can’t assume everyone in the world knows who you are,” one user commented.

Others, however, sided with Omotola, pointing out that a veteran who has dominated the African movie industry for decades deserves a more respectful and tailored introduction. “Someone like Omotola, he would have respected her… ‘I’m here with the ever-gorgeous screen goddess, Omotola Jalade, we feel so honoured to have you here…’ then proceed,” another fan argued.

A Night of Empowerment

Despite the red carpet hiccup, the Miss Nigeria 2026 event, themed “She’s Made of More,” was a massive success. The evening focused on redefining women’s impact beyond traditional beauty, with influential voices like Rita Dominic Anosike calling for Nigerian women to be seen as architects of change and national progress.

What do you think about Omotola’s reaction? Was she right to demand a proper introduction, or should she have just played along? Let us know in the comments!
