Afrobeat maverick Seun Kuti is back in the headlines, and this time, he’s taking aim at the pulpit. The singer has sparked a massive national debate after calling on the Federal Government to enact laws that would see pastors jailed for up to **50 years** if they cannot prove the ‘miracles’ they claim to perform.
## The Proof is in the Miracle
In a series of viral posts and videos, the youngest son of the legendary Fela Kuti argued that many religious leaders are exploiting vulnerable Nigerians with staged miracles. He proposed that any pastor claiming to heal the sick or perform supernatural acts should be required to repeat the feat under controlled, scientific conditions.
‘If you say you can heal the blind, let the government bring a blind person. If you fail, you go to jail for 50 years for obtaining by false pretenses,’ Seun declared. He believes this is the only way to protect citizens from spiritual fraud.
## Social Media Divided
As expected, his comments have divided Nigerians. While some ‘Free the Sheeple’ advocates agree that religious exploitation is a major issue in the country, many devout Christians have slammed the singer, accusing him of ‘touching the Lord’s anointed.’
‘Seun should focus on music and leave the church alone,’ one commenter wrote. Another countered, ‘He’s right! Too many people are being scammed in the name of God.’
Where do you stand? Is it time for the government to regulate ‘miracles,’ or is Seun Kuti crossing the line?
