An 87-year-old man from Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State has been arraigned after he was accused of attacking a judge during a court sitting and causing serious injuries.

What happened in the courtroom

The defendant, identified as Dahiru Garba of Korawa village, was accused of using a cutlass against Dauda Hamman, the presiding judge of Mayo-Inne Area Court. The incident reportedly occurred on August 31 while the judge was handling a case involving the defendant and another man.

Police say investigation was completed

The Adamawa State Police Command said the suspect was arrested after the incident and that the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola for further investigation and prosecution.

The police said the defendant was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court I, Yola, on a one-count charge of causing grievous hurt under the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018.

Court orders remand

After the charge was read and interpreted, the defendant pleaded guilty and attributed his conduct to the devil, according to the police account. The court ordered that he be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility pending the next stage of the case.

The development highlights the importance of courtroom safety and orderly dispute resolution. It also reinforces the need for every criminal allegation to proceed through the courts, where evidence and the applicable law can be tested.
