Lagos stood still today as the 2026 Wakathon, a global initiative for preventive healthcare, took center stage. Thousands of health enthusiasts, celebrities, and corporate workers gathered at the Catholic Church of Divine Mercy in Lekki Phase One to kick off the massive walk aimed at rewriting Africa’s health narrative.

Walking for a Healthier Nigeria

The event, organized by Waka Community in collaboration with Q-Life and HEI, focused on the importance of regular physical activity in preventing chronic diseases. Participants marched through the streets of Admiralty Way, carrying banners and chanting slogans that emphasized “Health is Wealth.” The energy was infectious as people of all ages joined the movement.

Expert Opinions on Preventive Care

Medical experts at the event highlighted that many health issues facing Nigerians today can be managed or avoided through simple lifestyle changes like walking. “We need to move from a curative mindset to a preventive one,” said one of the lead organizers. The Wakathon serves as a practical demonstration of how communities can come together to prioritize their well-being.

Conclusion

The success of the 2026 Wakathon in Lagos is a testament to the growing awareness of fitness in Nigeria. As the participants finished their route, the message was clear: a healthier nation starts with a single step. The organizers have promised to make this an annual tradition to keep the momentum going.
